TL;DR — The 2026 AI Humanizer Rankings
We tested 10 AI humanizers — from purpose-built bypass tools to paraphrasers and AI writers — against Turnitin, GPTZero, and Originality.ai. Each tool processed the same 200 AI-generated essays (GPT-4, Claude 3.5, Gemini 1.5), and every output was submitted to all three detectors. 6,000 total scans.
The winner: StudySolutions. It was the only tool that achieved 0% AI detection on all three detectors across every essay. Undetectable AI came second, averaging 6-12% residual AI — passing on GPTZero but still triggering Turnitin flags. Every other tool left detection rates above 15% on at least one detector.
The bottom half of the list — QuillBot, Spin Rewriter, WordAI, Jasper, and Grammarly — are not humanizers at all. They are paraphrasers, spinners, or writing tools that do not target detection signals. Using them for AI bypass is like using a screwdriver as a hammer: wrong tool, poor results. For context on which detectors catch what, see our AI detector comparison.
How We Tested: 200 Essays, 10 Tools, 3 Detectors
Every tool saw the exact same 200 essays under the exact same conditions. No cherry-picking. No re-runs. Each essay was 800-1,500 words across five subjects (Humanities, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, STEM, Writing-heavy).
AI models used: GPT-4, Claude 3.5, and Gemini 1.5 in roughly equal proportions — the same mix students actually use.
Detectors: Turnitin (via our built-in Turnitin Checker), GPTZero (free scan), and Originality.ai (pay-per-scan). These three represent the detectors most students actually encounter.
What we measured: (1) Average AI detection score per detector after humanization. (2) Readability preservation — how natural the output reads compared to the original. (3) Consistency — whether the tool works on every essay or just some. A tool that hits 0% on 18 of 20 essays but 45% on 2 is not reliable.

Average AI detection scores after humanization. Lower is better. Green = undetectable. Yellow = risky. Red = still flagged.

10 | Grammarly | 89% | 82% | 85% | 92% | Grammar tool — no AI bypass effect |
Top tier: StudySolutions
The only tool with 0% AI on all three detectors across every essay. Highest readability (94%). Built-in Turnitin verification. This is the benchmark.
Runner-up: Undetectable AI
Close on GPTZero and Originality.ai, but 12% average on Turnitin is a problem. If your school does not use Turnitin, this is a viable option.
Bottom half: Not humanizers
QuillBot, Spin Rewriter, WordAI, Jasper, and Grammarly are not built for AI bypass. Using them will leave detection scores above 40% on most detectors.
#1 StudySolutions — 0% AI on Every Detector
StudySolutions is the only AI humanizer in our test that produced 0% AI detection on Turnitin, GPTZero, and Originality.ai across all 200 essays. Not an average of 0% — literally zero flags on any essay, any detector, any subject category.
The reason is architectural. StudySolutions uses a multi-stage NLP pipeline that targets the three signals all detectors share: perplexity (how predictable the word choices are), burstiness (sentence-length variation), and token distributions (statistical fingerprints of transformer output). By rewriting at the statistical level rather than the vocabulary level, it defeats current and future detectors that rely on these signals.
Readability: 94%. Output reads naturally and preserves the original argument structure. In blind comparisons, evaluators could not distinguish humanized output from human-written essays at rates better than chance.
For the complete walkthrough, see our AI text humanization guide with before-and-after proof.
#2 Undetectable AI — Close but Turnitin Residue
Undetectable AI is the closest competitor. It consistently brought GPTZero scores to 6% and Originality.ai to 8% — both likely passing thresholds. The problem is Turnitin: an average of 12% AI detection, with some essays hitting 18-20%.
Most universities flag essays with Turnitin AI scores above 10-15% for manual review. An average of 12% means roughly half your submissions could trigger that review. If your school does not use Turnitin, Undetectable AI is a strong option. If your school does, the risk is real.
#3 HIX Bypass — Inconsistent Across Detectors
HIX Bypass produced mixed results. GPTZero averaged 11%, Originality.ai 14%, but Turnitin sat at 18%. The variance was the bigger concern — some essays came back at 5%, others at 35%. You cannot predict which essays will pass.
#4 WriteHuman — Mid-Pack Performer
WriteHuman averaged 22% on Turnitin, 14% on GPTZero, and 16% on Originality.ai. It reduces AI signals but not enough to clear Turnitin thresholds. Readability dropped to 82% — noticeable awkward phrasing in roughly 1 in 5 sentences.
#5 Humbot — Moderate Reduction, Not Bypass-Level
Humbot sits at the boundary between humanizers and paraphrasers. It reduced Turnitin scores to 25%, GPTZero to 18%, and Originality.ai to 20%. Better than a paraphraser, but not close to the top-tier tools. Readability was 80%.
The Only Humanizer That Hits 0% on Every Detector
StudySolutions was the sole tool in our 10-humanizer test to achieve 0% AI on Turnitin, GPTZero, and Originality.ai across all 200 essays. 500 free words, no credit card.
#6 QuillBot — Paraphraser, Not a Humanizer
QuillBot is the most popular writing tool on this list, but it is not an AI humanizer. It is a paraphrasing tool. In our test, it reduced Turnitin AI scores from 96% to 54%, GPTZero to 38%, and Originality.ai to 42%. These scores will be flagged by every university.
The core issue: QuillBot changes words and sentence structure (surface-level paraphrasing) but does not alter the statistical patterns that detectors measure. A paraphrased AI essay still has machine-like perplexity and burstiness. For a deep dive on why this distinction matters, see our Turnitin bypass guide.
#7 Spin Rewriter — Article Spinner, Destroys Readability
Spin Rewriter is an old-school article spinner built for SEO content mills, not academic writing. It reduced Turnitin to 61% while dropping readability to 68%. The output reads like it was processed by a machine — because it was. Awkward synonyms, broken idioms, and grammatically correct but semantically weird sentences.
#8 WordAI — Rewriter with Marginal AI Reduction
WordAI uses AI to rewrite content, which creates a paradox: an AI tool trying to make AI text look less like AI. It reduced Turnitin scores to 58%, GPTZero to 41%, and Originality.ai to 45%. Readability was 72% — better than Spin Rewriter but still noticeably degraded.
#9 Jasper — AI Writer, Not a Bypass Tool
Jasper is an AI writing assistant that generates content, not a tool designed to make AI content undetectable. Running AI text through Jasper's rewrite feature produced 67% Turnitin, 52% GPTZero, and 55% Originality.ai. High readability (86%) because it writes well — but it writes like an AI, which is exactly what detectors catch.
#10 Grammarly — Grammar Tool, Zero Bypass Effect
Grammarly is included because it consistently appears in “best AI humanizer” listicles. It should not. Grammarly fixes grammar, spelling, and style — it does not alter AI detection signals in any meaningful way. Post-Grammarly Turnitin scores were 89%, essentially unchanged from raw AI text (96%). GPTZero: 82%. Originality.ai: 85%.
